Ettitude, my Experience with Organic Bamboo Sheets

Wake up

This is why Ettitude’s organic bamboo lyocell sheets stole our green heart!

As you might have read in my previous posts,  I am on a slow quest to replace my home goods for greener options that are better for the planet and for the people. And don’t get me wrong: as much as I love the bedding sets that you can find at Primark for next to nothing, I am adopting a slow-living attitude in which I value well-crafted products that last a long time.

As I am not alone in my quest of a sustainable household, I wanted to share my experience with Ettitude’s organic bamboo sheets and explain why, in my opinion, quality matters over quantity.

Ettitude: Chemical-Free Organic Bedding

Ettitude is an Aussie-based company founded in 2014 that has the goal of making affordable eco-conscious alternatives. Aside from organic bamboo sheet sets, they also sell a wide array of lifestyle products (like super cute sleep masks, pajamas, towels, and lounge robes.)

But Ettitude has taken their eco-consciousness one step further, and it is one of those few companies that has decided to cut the middle man to pass the savings on to their customers. In their site, the true cost of making the product is clearly displayed so eco-conscious consumers can do the math (and we’ll simplify it for you: cutting the middleman avoids you a 300x markup.)

My experience with Ettitude Organic Bamboo Sheets

Ettitude’s most famous product is their Organic Bamboo Sheets. Packed in a cute reusable  bag made from the cutoffs of their bamboo fabric so nothing is wasted,  the first thing that caught my attention was the sheen and the softness of the fabric, which at first feels very similar to silk. The sheets, made with 100% bamboo lyocell fiber, are more substantial than I expected and akin to my conventional bedding set. So far so good.

On to the testing.

After a first wash, I tested my new white bamboo sheets and was very positively surprised by how comfortable they felt. Bamboo lyocell adjusts to the body temperature, so for once my significant other didn’t wake me up in the middle of the night complaining of the heat. Plus, bamboo lyocell is moisture-wicking, making it the perfect companion all-year round. Also, the sheets are so soft that it truly feels like your bed hugs you to sleep, which is great after a long day at work.

The second characteristic that I absolutely loved has to do with my personal vanity. See, I hate waking up with pillow marks because they make me look unprofessional (not to mention how terribly they age your skin!) The bamboo sheets not only left zero marks in my cheeks, but my hair was significantly less frizzy than when I use my regular cotton bedding.

Woman sleeping

Finally, sleeping in a fuzzy bamboo kingdom speaks to my green heart as manufacturing lyocell fibers uses fewer resources than conventional cotton. In my slow-living quest, what I value above everything else is having a good-quality product that will last for years to come and not end up on a landfill. These sheets cover all the bases plus are more ecological to manufacture, making them the perfect choice to transition from cheap cotton bedding to a more sustainable lifestyle.

There is only one downside to Ettitude’s sheets: This eco-conscious choice comes with a price tag of $178.00 for a Queen set. And although it is an investment that is completely worth the money, it is important to note that bamboo lyocell has a higher price than those conventional cotton sheets that you can purchase in big-box stores for a good reason. Ettitude bamboo sheets are perfect for those who have their heart set on comfort and durability, and it is important to have that in mind when planning your bedding budget. They are not those regular sheets that you simply toss when you move to another apartment at the end of the year.

Ettitude Limited Edition Collabs

Whomever said that eco-conscious gifts couldn’t be fancy as well? If you are looking for gifting ideas that aren’t necessarily bamboo sheet sets, since bedding is something very personal, Ettitude has a wide range of products to introduce your loved ones to the goodness of bamboo lyocell in style.

For those of us who love a good limited-edition gift set, Ettitude has created a collab with Tara Smith that combines the best of the beauty and sustainable world. The ‘birds of a feather’ holiday gift set includes two special-edition Ettitude sheets and a bamboo sleep mask, plus Tara Smith’s vegan hair products. If you are unfamiliar with Tara Smith, she is a celebrity hairstylist that has developed a vegan-friendly hair care line without harsh chemicals to eliminate animal cruelty and the negative environmental impact of many synthetic ingredients that go down the drain and affect the wildlife.

The “birds of a feather” gift set retails at $98.00 for a $130 value.
