Now that September kicks in, the back-to-school aisle is filled with opportunities to start a healthier routine. Fear not! I’m not talking about changing your life or over complicating your already busy schedule. I am rather suggesting to introduce small healthy add-ons to make a new routine stick (if you don’t believe me, check what the experts have to say about my method!) So scroll your way down for a good dose of green goodness that won’t break the bank!
Cybele’s Free To Eat Veggie Pasta Rotini
I have to admit I love pasta, as it holds a special place in the Mediterranean diet. Carbs are important to give you a burst of energy, and combined with proteins make an excellent lunch. Made with Green Lentils, Cauliflower, and Parsnips, Cybele’s Free To Eat Veggie Pasta equals one full serving of veggies with up to 25g of protein per serving. With a firm consistency and a nongranular aftertaste, they have been a very pleasant surprise in the pasta aisle. I like to cook these beauties with a bit of homemade pasta sauce (just toss a bottle of passatta with rosemary, thyme, a bit of salt, and a bit of extra virgin olive oil) to have a quick and satisfying lunch option.
Innovix Labs High-Absorption Curcumin
Curcumin, or Turmeric , is a spice known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Adding turmeric to my regular diet has been somehow difficult, since the only turmeric dish that I cook well is white lemon rice with curcumin. Yep, that’s it. If your cooking abilities are as reduced as mine, the Innovix Labs take on curcumin can be a good option if you wish to give this spice a try without the mess or the smell. Processed with BioPerine to increase the absorption and bioavailability of the turmeric extract, the Innovix Labs High-Absorption Curcumin comes in an easy-to-swallow pill.
Nature’s Truth Ultra Beet Root Powder
In one of my recent work trips, I took a cooking class with a nutritionist, who was convinced that adding beet root powder to shakes and other meals was a wonderful way to add more vitamins to our hectic life. I personally stuck to that tip and found that beet root powder is a natural sweetener, so I use it in my morning shakes for an added punch of vitamin C. As it’s hard to buy it by the pound, I was ecstatic when New Hope sent me a sample of Nature’s Truth Ultra Beet Root Powder to test. Gluten-free, vegan, and with a great taste, it pairs well with almond milk and a handful of strawberries for a no-nonsense, natural breakfast.
Motherlove Green Salve: A Back-To-School Do-It-All
I have to admit that salves are my thing. I love to use them to treat minor ailments, from muscular aches to small cuts and burns. The Motherlove Organic Green Salve is an all-purpose product that has stolen my green heart. From a patch of dry skin to an accident with poison ivy or the last mosquitoes of the summer, it is great to calm down my sensitive skin. Plus, it is so gentle that it can be used on children or expecting mothers! Certified USDA organic and made with love in the USA, it is a wonderful addition to your back-to-school kit.
Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap: My Back-To-School BFF
Can you imagine being able to clean your house, your produce, your dog and even your hair with a single product? There is a name for that, and it’s pure Castile soap. Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap has been a friend of mine for quite a while and I have recently started using it to clean my produce from nasty pesticides or germs (because you just don’t know how many people have handled that apple before you!) Completely natural, it comes in a range of scents to suit the needs of the whole family. My personal favorite? Peppermint!
I should try that beet root powder!!

Great tips! It’s hard to know if my kids are getting enough nutrition so this is helpful.
