FabFitFun Winter 2016 Subscription Box Review

Have any of you ladies ever received a FabFitFun Box? I have to confess I was very cautious at first when I saw they offered full-sized items and not samples for a very reasonable price. It simply did look too good to be true! However, I’m glad to say I was mistaken.

I recently received a sample of the FabFitFun Winter 2016 box to consider for my Holiday Gift Guides (which, by the way, you can access here!) In case you’re not familiar with it, the FabFitFun box is a quarterly subscription that sends every three months an array of beauty, home, lifestyle, and fitness items. It ships to the US and Canada.

When I opened the box I was so stunned that it took me a few minutes to react. I loved the variety of items displayed and, to be honest, the first thought that came to my mind was every single one of them on their own would make a terrific gift if you are on a tight budget. Think about it: In the Winter Box you get 7 high-quality, full-size beauty and lifestyle items worth $252.95 for $49.95 plus free shipping!

So, what are the wonders hidden in this FabFitFun Winter 2016 box, you might ask? Keep reading to unveil my full review!

{Spoiler alert: I will be spilling the beans, so if you’re waiting for your box to arrive I suggest you wait to read more until you receive it!}

You can start hyperventilating in 3, 2, 1… go!

The Deets

1. D.L. & Co Candle: My box contained a Bergamot Woods scented candle nestled inside the most gorgeous, art deco inspired holder. This soy-blend candle has quickly become one of my favorites because it smells like a perfect winter evening topped up with a hot cocoa in front of the fire (to be honest, it reminds me of my first winter in New York. The scent at Central Park after the snow storm was simply magical!) Worth $45, I will be using it to create my very own Gatsby-esque Christmas centerpiece.

2. Gorjana Necklace: As every box is different, I received the Taner Toggle Lariat in Gold. It is a great piece to layer and I’ll be definitely playing around with it to dress up my little black dresses. However, and although it is gorgeous, I personally liked more the other version (the Kernan Double Pendant Necklace in Silver) if I were making a gift as layering can be daunting for those not used to wearing a lot of jewelry. The Double Pendant is a two-in-one piece that takes off the guesswork. However, if you do like experimenting on your own with the pieces you already own, the Toggle Lariat is an ideal piece.  Plus, it’s dainty enough to make it easy to pair it up with something else (I’m thinking something along the lines of a simple black choker) for an Insta-worthy effect. Worth $75, it also comes with a coupon for $20 off redeemable on Gorjana’s website on any full-price piece (expires 05.15.17)

3. Marie Mae Company Thank You Card Set: I have to confess I love cards. My paper obsession gets so bad that I sometimes dream about stationery! And this set is just perfect: It contains ten tasteful cards with a beautiful cheers sentiment embossed with gold on the front, plus ten envelopes. Perfect for any occasion when your mom would advise you to send a thank you note, they usually retail for $24. These cards are exclusive to Fab Fit Fun subscribers.

4. O.R.G. Skincare Mineral Peel Face: I really liked this product with enzyme exfoliants to prep my skin before using foundation. As I have some dry spots on my forehead, anything that helps me avoid the cakey look will always have a special place in my heart. Plus, it’s very easy to use: Just spray it on, massage it, and rinse it off for a dewy, glowing skin. This product retails for $44, which is about as much as what you would pay for the whole box. Again, with Fab Fit Fun you only receive full-size products. Can’t stress this enough 🙂

When a candle and a card steal your heart…

5. Moleskine 2017 Weekly Planner: Holy Moly! I was looking for the perfect planner and this beauty came along in my box! Moleskine’s planners are understated, exquisite, and perfect for a multi-tasker like yours truly. Its perfect size allows me to use it as a planner and diary all-in-one, and the paper is so good that I can doodle my silly inventions with no ink bleeds. Believe me: the Moleskine cover feels like celestial music for journalists for a reason. Worth $20.95, this beauty made my day. I received the purple version, and other boxes contain an equally gorgeous teal planner.

Writing in the same notebook that Hemingway reportedly used? That’s music to my ears!

6. Butter London Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara: Let me be tremendously honest with you: This mascara is like the Ferrari of eye makeup. I have worn it on rainy/snowy days and I haven’t ended up looking like a panda, plus it gives a very nice boost to my lashes that is very much appreciated when you have less than 5 minutes to do your makeup. Ideal for day and night looks, it really gives a lot of volume and, in my case, the look of fake lashes. This beauty retails for $20 and yes, you receive a full-size product.

7. Anderson Lilley Beach Butter Body Cream: As the proud owner of a very dry skin, I’m always slathering my skin with moisturizer. I personally loved this rich body cream because it took care of some of my problem areas with just one application. Just. The. One. Although every box is different, I received the Sicilian Tangerine version that smells like summer while you enjoy the winter. It also works wonderfully well to treat your toes; just apply it like a thick mask with a pair of old socks and let it sit while you watch the recently released Gilmore Girls episodes. Made in the USA, it retails for $24 and you guessed right: You get a full-sized cream.

The beauty selection of the box is carefully designed to take you to the New Year and beyond!

8. Fab Fit Fun Magazine: I was very pleasantly surprised to discover a magazine that contained some really good stuff aside from the explanation of what was in the box. The interview with Maria Sebregondi (the Moleskine founder) alone is priceless, and if you pair it up with some serious eggnog and hot cocoa recipes you’ll get a very well-rounded publication that tops off a seriously giftable box.

My verdict

It is my first experience with this subscription service, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the contents of the FabFitFun Winter Box 2016. I think the selection is impeccable and lives up to the hype created on the website (to be honest, I had very high expectations to start with.) The content is very well-balanced to satisfy any beauty, fashion, and lifestyle cravings of the subscribers. Plus, the fact that they include only full-size products gets full points on my marks.

Some people argue that spending about $50 and not knowing what you get is somehow risky. I personally feel that the very clever people behind the project make it a priority to make the investment worth it. My best guess is that they’re really good at negotiating prices with their suppliers, because after the initial (positive) shock I couldn’t stop asking myself how they did it. Plus, a full year subscription for about $200 equals spending $16.70 per month to receive high-quality, full-size products, which is significantly less than most subscription box services that just send random samples.

In the light of the above evidence I can only say one thing: Grab the Winter FabFitFun Box while you can!
