If Santa Claus has gifted you a pair of comfy rocker boots, why don’t you style them up for New Year’s Eve? I recently received a sample of the Alida boots by Coolway, and they are so comfortable that I decided to make my last post of 2016 about easy and effortless chic NYE looks on a shoestring that won’t get your feet on fire.
Finding the perfect NYE outfit can be a bit of an ordeal, especially if you don’t want to wear high heels or don’t have a ginormous budget. I have good news for you: I created a glam and effortless look with a necklace from Avon, an old LBD from H&M that I grabbed on sale for $8, and a pair of rocker boots. Yes, the same items that most of us have in our wardrobe anyway. Believe me: You don’t have to break the piggy bank to look fab and dance the New Year away!

Rocking a NYE look on a budget is actually pretty easy. I firmly believe that you can never go wrong with a little black dress (or LBD.) With a bunch of accessories, even a humble $8 dress can make you look (and feel) like a million dollars! I’ve had this H&M dress for about four years and I still find new and creative uses to style it. If you also decide to rock an all-black NYE look, the first thing you have to think about is how to bring some color that doesn’t become overwhelming. I decided to settle for a statement piece: A necklace that I decided to wear in my hair attached with bobby pins. Although I used the Paradise Cove Statement Necklace from Avon ($19) because the color complimented nicely my dark eyes and dark hair, I suggest you try on every single statement necklace you own before settling for a candidate. You’ll be surprised! To style and straighten my hair, I used the Luma hairbrush and skipped spending money on a blow dry bar.
However, and in order to dance the night away, I wanted to find a way to make my rocker boots work. The key were black stockings. An all-black total look is serious enough for any NYE celebration, yet the necklace on the hair gives it the glamorous touch the occasion calls for.
As I explained before, the guys at Coolway sent me a sample pair of their Alida boots to try. Coolway is a Spanish brand (as in from Spain) that’s very well-known for creating trendy shoes that last several seasons. A synonym of high quality, they manufacture their pieces using the experience and craftsmanship passed on by generations.
The Coolway Alida Boots ($119.95) are meticulously crafted with a two buckle design and a timeless slouchy look that will stay in trend for several seasons. Made with premium leather and a moldable shaft, these comfortable boots are very stable yet can be bent to adapt them to your craziest looks. To me, these boots are an investment piece that I can see myself using over and over during the winter and spring season. Plus, I’ve actually taken these beauties to a night out dancing and they have kept my toes toasty despite the frigid weather in New York and free of pain, painful blisters, and wardrobe malfunctions. That alone is priceless!
However, the Coolway US sizing system can be a bit tricky as it runs slightly larger than expected. I strongly suggest you use the European sizing guidelines. For instance, I use a US size 8, which usually equals a Spanish 38 or 38 1/2, and the Coolway Alida Boots in size 8 are more in line with a Spanish 39. That’s nothing that a good pair of thick socks can’t solve, but if you are in between sizes do size down.
As this is my last post of the year, I want to use this occasion to thank you for reading New York For Beginners and wish you a memorable 2017 filled with peace, joy, and success.
