Thesis Beauty, Organic Cleansing Ritual for Dry Skin

Thesis Beauty is a lovely organic cosmetics brand that I discovered thanks to the Indie Beauty Expo in New York City. And boy, how lucky was that encounter! With the change in weather, my dry skin needs an urgent cleansing ritual that nourishes and hydrates it at the same time with organic ingredients.

Willing to accept the challenge, the folks at Thesis were kind enough to send me samples of their two organic cleansing heroes: The Organic Makeup Remover with Rosemary + Citrus and the Tender as Petals Floral Face Cleanser. Suitable for all skin types, these two products promised to leave my skin clean and fresh without drying or exposing it to the pesky synthetic nasties that give me allergic reactions (hello, sulfates!). Here is my organic cleansing ritual experience with Thesis Beauty!

Beauty Squared: Five Nontoxic Beauty Brands That I'm Obsessed With

Beauty Squared Introduced me to Five Nontoxic Beauty Brands That I'm Obsessed With For the Fall

With the transition to the Fall, I wanted to share with you the five nontoxic beauty brands that caught my attention at Beauty Squared, a new professional beauty show that took place in New York a few weeks ago.

Although the word "natural" seems to be the latest industry buzzword, you should never take it at face value. Many companies want to jump on the green bandwagon, and as the use of the word "natural" is not regulated in the US they can claim they are as pure as Earth can be, while loading their formulas with hormonal disruptors and other nasty synthetic chemicals.

Beauty Squared is a new professional beauty show that gave me the chance to discover some noteworthy green beauty brands. Conceived as a space to meet and greet the creators without the hustle and bustle of other shows open to the general public, it was an excellent opportunity to understand what motivated some brands to go completely clean while delivering on their promises.

These are the five nontoxic beauty brands that stole my green heart. Plus, many of them are handcrafted with care in the United States, which is very much in line with my values to support local businesses. Please note that I am not responsible if after reading this post you become as obsessed as I am with these clean, nontoxic beauty brands!

Glo Skin Beauty, a solution for every makeup and skincare woes

Glo Skin Beauty review at New York For Beginners

Glo Skin Beauty is a makeup and skincare brand dedicated to giving solutions to all the beauty woes under the sun. With an extensive line that can make your head spin, Glo Skin Beauty provides tailored solutions starting with your cleanser and ending with your perfect shade of lipstick. This magical approach to beauty is the result of the merging of Glo Minerals and Glo Therapeutics, two award-winning beauty companies that have been used professionally for a long time.

What I like most about Glo Skin Beauty is that they see skincare and makeup as an integrated line. Their makeup is specifically designed to continue treating the skin, not undoing the goodness in the skincare that you have invested your hard-earned dollars in.

Glo Skin Beauty review at New York For Beginners

To me, this vision of the beauty industry is an indicator of success. Although I'm used to testing a lot of brands and I've been known for doing really strange combinations (like the skincare sandwich), I always recommend my friends to try and stick to one or two brand tops. Usually, brands design their skincare lines with all their products in line, and mixing and matching too many products can lead to disastrous results (hello, acne!). Glo Skin Beauty takes this one step further by offering makeup and skincare that work to enhance each other, making the decision process so much simpler for those who find Sephora an intimidating place.

Although Glo Skin Beauty has a line with everything you could wish for and caters to every skincare woes, I wanted to share with you my top four Glo Skin Beauty products.

Autumn Green Beauty Review: Apoterra for Dry Skin

Review of Apoterra, a natural skincare line for dry skin at New York For Beginners

Apoterra Skincare is one of those few truly green beauty brands that cater to dry skin. Made with all-natural, non-toxic ingredients sourced with care and mixed with love in New York City, this apothecary beauty company is a complete game-changer.

Today, I'm reviewing two of Apoterra's best products to help dry skin transition into Autumn: The Rose Hydrating Toner and the Night Regenerative Balm.

Apoterra's rose line is a great introduction to green beauty for dry or mature skin. With collage-boosting and hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, rooibos, prickly pear seed oil and vitamin C, these two products have quickly reclaimed their rightful spot in my all-natural vanity.

Mr. Gotham's Review: Lootcrate Julio 2017

Mr. Gotham's Review: Lootcrate July 2017

Gone and forgotten are those days where cartoons are childish shows created just for children. Animated shows are now a powerful industry fully enjoyed by the most demanding adults. Graphic violence, explicit sexuality and stories full of a dark sense of humor have been an endless source of controversy and fun to many generations of fans devoted to the most irreverent and crazy animated shows.

For this reason, Lootcrate honors this month some of the most popular cartoons of this era.

How To Hack Eyebobs Into Prescription Glasses and Sunglasses

If you wear glasses, you must have read about eyebobs. eyebobs is an American company that creates distinctive and high-quality readers to make minor vision problems Instagram-worthy. They are so popular that many people have started a movement about how to hack eyebobs into prescription glasses.

Some of us simply can't do readers. But the frames are gorgeous, and quite less expensive than the terribly bland options you can find at your optician cheap aisle (especially in Manhattan. Gosh, this city is so expensive!)

So I'm not the first nor the last person hacking a pair of eyebobs, but I wanted to share my experience because with a bit of patience and perseverance I ended up having a pair of prescription glasses and sunglasses for a fraction of what I would have paid with my vision insurance benefits.

Welcome to my first eyebobs hacking experience!

Indie Beauty Expo NYC 2017: What You Can Expect

Indie Beauty Expo is coming again to New York City, on August 22-24 2017! As a green reporter, it is very exciting for me to see so many natural and eco-friendly brands come together under a single roof, and it is definitely a wonderful opportunity to those willing to greenify their beauty routine to meet and greet similarly-minded companies.

The Indie Beauty Expo has grown exponentially over the past years, filling a niche in the market that demands more independent beauty brands to have a voice and an opportunity to grow.

Are you still wondering what you can expect from Indie Beauty Expo 2017 in New York City? Fear not, as I did the hard work for you: I literally asked the founders Jillian Wright and Nader Naeymi-Rad to spill the beans and tell us what is new this year. Believe me, you are going to want to secure a VIP ticket and grab some of those sweet, sweet exclusive samples!

Bistango at The Kimberly Hotel, an Italian Staycation

Opinion of the gluten free Italian restaurant Bistango in new york city

If after paying the rent of your dignified wardrobe you don't have much of a budget to travel, don't despair: Invest in staycation experiences and travel the world without the hassle of the airport controls.

Bistango at the Kimberly Hotel is an Italian-staycation-meets-culinary-experience that impressed me greatly. After a particularly stressful week, I was invited to taste their summer menu and it ended up feeling like a mini-break in Italy.

Summer in New York can feel oppressive. The heat, the MTA delays, the smells, and even the unpredictable tropical showers can make anyone feel like they want to escape New York. Lucky for all of us gothamists, the city offers some insanely good restaurants where the heat and the noise seem to disappear. Bistango at the Kimberly Hotel is one of those carefully curated establishments where after a couple of appetizers you completely forget you're living in one of the most hectic places in the world.

Bistango is an Italian restaurant with a twist: They accommodate every single food intolerance under the sun. With a menu carefully crafted to include some of the best Italian dishes married to international flavors, they have something for everybody.

Strange-looking beauty gadgets that actually work

If you are minimally into beauty, chances are you will have encountered some strange-looking beauty gadgets while pursuing your passion. And hey, I wouldn't blame you if you thought that you wouldn't use them in a million years. I was like that before I started my reporting career!

However, and strange-looking as they may seem, some of these beauty gadgets actually work and deliver excellent results. These are a few of my favorites, including some #beautygadgettrends that I spotted at Cosmoprof in Las Vegas:

Sphynx, the Round Razor

Cosmoprof is one of the largest professional events in the beauty industry. After three days walking their floors, I must have met with a minimum of 200+ exhibitors, judging by the sheer number of business cards that I brought with me. However, and even in the frenzy of meeting a gazillion brands from all over the world, a strange-looking beauty gadget really stuck: A round razor system called Sphynx.

Sphynx is actually a round portable razor system that hides four chambers inside: One with a TSA-approved water receptacle, a moisturizing razing soap bar, and two with one-blade razors for quick touch-ups in case of a beauty emergency.

Mr. Gotham's Review: Lootcrate June 2017

We all have a hidden side of our persona that would prefer to keep well hidden from the rest of the world. Sometimes, because it can be a sinister part of ourselves. Or it could may reveal too sensitive information that could put us in disadvantage. The alter-ego concept is a widely used pretext in the vast majority of super heroic genre, from comic book's Spiderman, Superman and Batman to the more classic Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. A dual personality, una visible and other hidden that perfectly shows the troubled nature of human psique. Summer brings us this eternal dichotomy with some of the most popular heroes who deeply rely in their secret identity in order to survive.

Mr. Gotham's Review: Lootcrate Junio 2017
