A NYE Look on a Budget with Coolway

If Santa Claus has gifted you a pair of comfy rocker boots, why don't you style them up for New Year's Eve? I recently received a sample of the Alida boots by Coolway, and they are so comfortable that I decided to make my last post of 2016 about easy and effortless chic NYE looks on a shoestring that won't get your feet on fire.

Finding the perfect NYE outfit can be a bit of an ordeal, especially if you don't want to wear high heels or don't have a ginormous budget. I have good news for you: I created a glam and effortless look with a necklace from Avon, an old LBD from H&M that I grabbed on sale for $8, and a pair of rocker boots. Yes, the same items that most of us have in our wardrobe anyway. Believe me: You don't have to break the piggy bank to look fab and dance the New Year away!

Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl DUO review plus homemade Nutella recipe

To me, Christmas is the busiest time of the year. Aside from having an increased workload to be completed before the end of the year, including my gargantuan Holiday Gift Guides, I love to celebrate the season by cooking special homemade meals. The problem is I'm always short of time, and I end up with a lot of unwanted stress that somehow reflects on my holiday mood.

This year, and as I will have some friends coming over to celebrate the festivities with me, I wanted to try something different: Spending less time cooking so I could enjoy their visit more. So when the guys at Nutri Ninja sent me a sample of their Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl DUO with Auto-iQ Boost to try, I decided to experiment and see what I could come up with.

{Spoiler alert: You can create Homemade Nutella and I'm telling you how step-by-step. Merry Xmas!}

The Product

Nutri Ninja Nutri Bowl DUO Review at New York For Beginners
If you own a TV, chances are you'll have seen Ninja's advertisements more than once. I have to confess I was very curious about the brand, but since I owned a small appliance to make smoothies I thought I wouldn't make much use of ituntil I encountered THE blender (or should I say my new kitchen BFF?)

Omiana, nontoxic makeup for sensitive skin

Are you allergic to regular makeup? Do you suffer from sensitivities, or simply want to avoid certain ingredients? You're not alone! If you've landed on this post, it means that you're also doing your research to avoid purchasing yet another product that makes your skin go red and angry. That is why I was so excited to test Omiana, a nontoxic skincare and makeup line catering to sensitive skin.

Founded by women who wanted to give other women an easy solution to their beauty woes without compromising on what they put on the formulas, Omiana's products are free from all the ingredients that I personally avoid for health reasons, chiefly parabens, nanoparticles, propylene glycol, and the like. What's more, Omiana has a completely transparent policy with regards to its ingredients, and their website certainly has the coolest feature: A search wizard that allows you to filter their products based on the ingredients you want to avoid, both natural and synthetic. At the end, you can peruse a totally tailor-made list suited to your skin type, skin tone, and skin conditions.

Specialized in creating titanium dioxide-free makeup and mica-free makeup, Omiana has a completely transparent ingredient policy with full disclosure of what's in their products. And yes, you guessed right: You can see the ingredients listed under the description of each product and not lost somewhere in the deep web. This makes life extremely easy for people with specific skin allergies or those willing to understand what they put on their face. Plus, Omiana's formulas are very clean and most of them score a 1 or a 2 on the EWG Skin Deep database, which means they are free from potentially worrysome nasties.

FabFitFun Winter 2016 Subscription Box Review

Have any of you ladies ever received a FabFitFun Box? I have to confess I was very cautious at first when I saw they offered full-sized items and not samples for a very reasonable price. It simply did look too good to be true! However, I'm glad to say I was mistaken.

I recently received a sample of the FabFitFun Winter 2016 box to consider for my Holiday Gift Guides (which, by the way, you can access here!) In case you're not familiar with it, the FabFitFun box is a quarterly subscription that sends every three months an array of beauty, home, lifestyle, and fitness items. It ships to the US and Canada.

When I opened the box I was so stunned that it took me a few minutes to react. I loved the variety of items displayed and, to be honest, the first thought that came to my mind was every single one of them on their own would make a terrific gift if you are on a tight budget. Think about it: In the Winter Box you get 7 high-quality, full-size beauty and lifestyle items worth $252.95 for $49.95 plus free shipping!

So, what are the wonders hidden in this FabFitFun Winter 2016 box, you might ask? Keep reading to unveil my full review!

{Spoiler alert: I will be spilling the beans, so if you're waiting for your box to arrive I suggest you wait to read more until you receive it!}

The Best Subscription Boxes to Gift

If you follow New York For Beginners regularly, you'll have noticed that the 12 Days of Xmas Holiday Gift Guides ended yesterday. Well, technically. We wanted to do something special for those procrastinators that might not have a lot of time to do ye olde good in-person shopping. To solve your gifting woes, we have selected the best subscription boxes.

Why, you might think? To start with, because they never sell out; even in the event that you don't get a physical box in December, you'll get a gift subscription. Second, because they make your life extremely easy: As they are already curated by experts in each theme, they are a gift that the recipient will actually like. Finally, because they offer a bang for your buck; subscription boxes make terrific gifts because they usually include items whose retail price is way higher than what you paid for the box.

Think of this extra gift guide as a lagniappe, honoring the well-known Italian tradition to give something extra when you purchase something by the dozen. Thank you very much for reading us and Happy Holidays!

Gifts for the Unicorn and Cat Obsessed

I have to confess I have a thing for unicorns. I've always believed that if there are such things as whales with horns (aka narwhals), sheep with horns (my very loose interpretation of mouflons), and other fantastic-looking animals, there is no reason for unicorns not to have existed.

The explosion of merchandise bearing cute unicorns indicates I'm not alone in my beliefs. That is why I decided to personally curate a gift guide dedicated to every unicorn and cat lover out there. Ideal for teens, tweens, and adults with a penchant for anything cute (like yours truly), this unique guide includes very affordable gift ideas. Sounds like another fantasy of mine? Just check my selection below and you'll see for yourself!

Good Resolutions Holiday Gift Guide

January is about to roll in along with our good resolutions: Exercising more, eating better, or even consuming more responsibly. The key to the success is to take things one day at a time. If you want to be healthier, implementing a spartan diet can derail you quite quickly. Same thing happens with exercising: Going from nada to daily sessions at the gym will leave you sad at the least, and in the worst case scenario, injured.

That is why this Holiday Gift Guide has you and your loved ones covered in case of a Good Resolutions emergency. We've curated our favorite products that will help you implement gradual lifestyle changes to exercise more, eat better and more healthily, do some serious detoxing using cleaner beauty products, and implement some mindfulness techniques to make the most of the present.

Organic Beauty: A Nontoxic Holiday Gift Guide

Do you have a loved one that is transitioning to a cleaner beauty routine? Do you want to greenify your make-up bag? You've arrived at the right place: Today, at New York For Beginners, we are dishing our favorite organic beauty products that make terrific holiday gifts.

In this guide, we have only included true natural products. Unfortunately, the current regulations of the beauty industry make it very difficult for consumers to understand what ingredients are in the formulas, and the word "natural" appears too frequently in synthetic formulas (or what other people in the green community refer to as chemicals or toxins.) Rest assured: We've gone to great lengths to do our research and ensure we are featuring the real deal: Formulas made with 100% natural or naturally-derived ingredients that fit our European criteria.

On a side note, you'll have noticed that New York For Beginners features all types of beauty products, including synthetic. That is because there are no conclusive research studies to prove that regular cosmetics are unsafe. However, we believe it is your right to make an informed choice of what you put on your skin.  Because we have many readers who are turning to natural skincare for health or other reasons, we are very careful when we say that something is natural and we spend a lot of time researching the ingredients using the EWG database and other sources. Also, that is why you'll find a myriad of 100% natural and/or organic products in every single gift guide we're publishing these Holidays.

Epicure: A Gift Guide For Foodies

According to the definition proposed by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, an epicure is someone with sensitive and discriminating tastes, especially in food or wine. To me, an epicure is an old-fashioned foodie that appreciates having an excuse for a tasting adventure.

In order to honor those epicures we all have in our lives, we have decided to create the ultimate foodie gifting guide. It includes some of the most delish treats you can find in the USA, as well as the perfect accessories to accompany a scrumptious meal. Bon appétit!

Made In USA Holiday Gift Guide

'Tis the time of the year to start drawing up your Wish Lists for Santa. Along the next twelve days, and coinciding with the Twelve Days of Christmas, New York For Beginners will feature a variety of holiday gift guides with our hand-picked selections for the whole family, including 100% natural options for those of you leading a green lifestyle. Today, we'll start our Festive series with a few gifting ideas Made In the USA.

I'm a big supporter of the Buy Local movement for different reasons. The first one is because it helps protect much-needed jobs and traditional industries in our communities. The second has to do with the carbon and ethical footprint of my consumption habits; I personally don't like to think that my gifts have travelled the world more than myself, and I very much prefer purchasing objects made by local artisans that are guaranteed a fair wage and humane working conditions. On top of that, buying Made in USA isn't necessarily more expensive. This guide features excellent products that fit all budgets.

And now, without further ado, here's our curated Made in USA Holiday Gift Guide!
